STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State’s Jay Miller and Chelsea Bramlett will be representing the United States this week as the squad competes in the International Softball Federation (ISF) XII Women’s World Softball Championship in Caracas, Venezuela.
Miller’s squad, which is seeking its ninth World Championship title, opens pool play against China at 12:30 p.m. CT on Thursday. The Red, White and Blue face New Zealand and the host country on Friday before challenging Botswana (Saturday), Australia (Sunday), Dominican Republic (Monday) and Czech Republic (Tuesday) to close out Pool B action.
The medal rounds start June 30 and run through July 3.
The squad heads to Venezuela following a quartet of exhibition games in Ohio. Last Wednesday, Bramlett singled and scored as the National Team won 7-0 to complete the doubleheader sweep of the United States Futures Team in Canton. The following night in Ashland, the four-time NFCA First Team All-American sparked the WNT to a 6-0 win against the Futures with an RBI double in a two-run sixth inning.
Miller and Bramlett are both in their second summer tours with the United States. The pair sparked the Red, White and Blue to gold medals at the Canada Cup, the World Cup of Softball and Japan Cup a year ago.
