JONESBORO, Ark. - The ULM baseball team (14-14, 2-7 SBC) makes its first trip to Arkansas State (17-13, 7-2 SBC) since the 2008 season when the two teams open a three-game set Friday night at Tomlinson Stadium.

Right-hander Cale Wine (4-3, 4.68 ERA) is slated to start the series-opening game Friday at 6 p.m. against fellow righty Jacob Lee (3-1, 2.98 ERA). Southpaw Randy Zeigler (2-4, 2.72 ERA) will take on Daniel Wright (1-2, 3.63 ERA) Saturday at 4 p.m. Andrew Richardson (0-3, 5.79 ERA) is penciled in to start the finale Sunday at 1 p.m. against Cory Kyle (2-2, 4.78 ERA).

ULM Short Hops

-Arkansas State defeated the Warhawks two games to one to claim last season's series April 8-10 in Monroe.

-ULM came up on the short end of a 2-1 series defeat at FIU last weekend, but the three-game set was decided by only two runs (14-12).     

-The Warhawks outhit the Golden Panthers 27-25, had more total bases (45-38), stole one more base (5-4), and the two teams were tied with nine extra base hits each.

-Jeremy Sy continued to put up All-Sun Belt caliber numbers against FIU, batting an even .500 (6-for-12) over the weekend in Miami. Sy contributed a triple, a home run, two RBIs, five runs scored and three stolen bases during the three-game set.

-Sy has reached base in a team and career-high 19 straight games. The senior shortstop leads ULM with a .359 batting average, the fifth-best clip in the Sun Belt Conference, and has added two home runs, six doubles, four triples, 17 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

-Fellow senior Les Aulds is in the midst of an eight-game on-base streak, logging an 11-for-27 (.407) hitting stretch in his last eight starts. Aulds has also stolen three bases and scored seven runs during the streak.

-Taylor Abdalla is tied for second in the Sun Belt Conference with 10 doubles this season, including a league-best five two-baggers in conference play.

-ULM is currently ranked 35th in average attendance and 36th in total attendance nationally through its first 16 home dates in 2012. Warhawk Field has already seen 26,733 people pass through its gates, and a season-high 2,433 fans were on hand for the March 17 contest against UL-Lafayette.

-Through 28 games, ULM holds the edge over the opposition in extra base hits (66-63), stolen bases (41-31) and fielding percentage (.968-.963).

-Head coach Jeff Schexnaider is tied with Brad Holland for fourth place on the ULM career wins list. Schexnaider has 150 victories in his sixth year at the helm of the Warhawks.
