After her second top-ten finish of the season, sophomore Hannah Mittelstaedt (Maple Valley, Wash.) has been named the Great West Conference Female Runner of the Week, announced Thursday by the conference office.
Mittelstaedt placed sixth at the Beaver Classic last Saturday, Oct. 22, at Avery Park in Corvallis, Ore., finishing the six-kilometer course in 22:31. The time was her career best over a six-kilometer course, as she shaved 10 seconds off her previous best time as well as 30 seconds off her time in last year's race.
This was the fourth time this season that Mittelstaedt was the top finisher for the Seattle University women, who supported her finish with solid races to help the team place second in the team standings, ahead of squads from Oregon and Oregon State. Mittelstaedt is being honored by the conference for the second time this season, previously receiving the honor Oct. 6 after finishing fifth at the Emerald City Open.
Mittelstaedt will lead Seattle U into the Great West Conference Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Oct. 29, hosted by the University of North Dakota at Ray Richards Golf Course in Grand Forks, N.D., beginning at 11:30 a.m. local time (9:30 a.m. Pacific time).
