Toledo, OH - The Toledo men's tennis team will play at home and on the road this weekend, as it hosts Detroit on Friday, Feb. 3 and travels to East Lansing, MI on Saturday, Feb. 4 to play against Michigan State.
The Rockets (4-5, 0-0 MAC) are coming off a three-match weekend in which they came up with two home wins - beating Xavier 6-1 and Duquesne 5-2 - before losing to No. 3 Ohio State on the road, 4-0.
In the two wins, freshman Tomas Stillman and juniors Bryant Dudzik and Terence Weigand came up won both of their singles matches. Stillman defeated Xavier's Roebker, 7-5, 6-4, and topped Abgaryan of Duquesne, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Dudzik beat MacDonald of Xavier in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, and DU's Aleman, 6-2, 6-4. Weigand got the best of XU's Moe, 6-1, 2-6, 10-4 and Duquesne's Mekaoui, 6-3, 6-2.
UT's No. 2 doubles team of Stillman and Weigand also won both of their matchups, defeating MacDonald/Diaz of Xavier, 8-6 and Aleman/Robbie of Duquesne, 8-5.
"Paul, Aleks and I have been working hard with these guys," said head coach Al Wermer. "With information we gather from our very competitive matches, we're continuing to add new wrinkles to the guys' games. Sometimes it's fundamentals, sometimes it's a very small detail that will help them get fiver percent better. This weekend will be an excellent two-match challenge."
Detroit is coming off a 6-1 setback to Xavier.
Michigan State is coming off a two-loss weekend at the ITA Kick-Off, beaten 4-2 by No 18 Tennessee and 4-0 by No. 20 Oklahoma.
NOTE: During Friday's home match against Detroit, there will be a "Hit-it-to-Get-it" contest between the doubles and singles matches to win posters and t-shirts.
