Match Notes

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team earned a 23-21 lead in the first set before UNCG came from behind to win, 26-24. The shift in the momentum was too much for the Mocs to overcome on the road at Fleming Gym as the Spartans captured the match in straight sets, 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-15).

Pacing the Chattanooga (5-23, 3-10 SoCon) offense was outsides junior Heather Parman (Oltewah, Tenn.) and sophomore Jennifer Kuroski (Acworth, Ga.) with 11 kills each.

Sophomore setter Bridget Camacho (Cumming, Ga.) totaled 21 digs in the match against UNCG (15-14, 7-6 SoCon) and contributed eight digs and three kills.

The back row for the Mocs was led by freshman libero Melissa Green (Boca Raton, Fla.) with 17 digs.

Tallying a match-high 12 kills for UNCG was Karrian Chambers, who came one dig short of a double-double. Ariel Newman registered 11 kills without a mistake, while Ari Lysacek notched 21 assists and Kellie Orewiler posted a match-leading 23 digs.

The match was even at seven-all early in the first set and Kuroski took the service line as the Mocs rallied to a 13-7 lead aided by a kill from Kuroski and block by Parman and Christie. UNCG responded to come within two at 14-12 forcing a Chattanooga timeout, and eventually tied it at 14 before a sideout.

A kill by Camacho, service ace from Parman and block by Teter and Camacho stretched the advantage to 20-16, but the Spartans continued to fight back to within one, 21-20. Kuroski put Chattanooga up 23-21 late in the frame with a kill before UNCG used a 5-1 rally that included three kills and two blocks to close it out, 26-24.

With the Mocs down early in the second set, 10-8, UNCG scored on seven of the next eight points to take command of the frame. The Spartans cruised to a 25-20 set victory as the closest Chattanooga would come was four.

During the third set, both teams fought through the first nine points before UNCG rallied to a 17-5 advantage and eventually ended the match with a 25-15 victory.
