Chattanooga Finishes Fourth at Collegiate Match Play Presented by Callaway
The Mocs fell 3-2 to 5th-ranked Cal despite wins by Stephan Jaeger (pictured) and Steven Fox.

BRADENTON, Fla. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team finished fourth at the Collegiate Match Play presented by Callaway. UTC dropped a 3-2 decision Tuesday to fifth-ranked Cal at the Concession Golf Club.

The Golden Bears went up with wins in the third and fourth matches. Brandon Hagy beat Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) 4&2 for the first point. Joel Stalter added a 3&1 win over Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) to make it 2-0.

Ben Hogan Award candidate Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) got the Mocs on the board with a 2&1 win over Max Homa, the 10th-ranked player in the country. He came back from two down to take the lead for good with a par on 10. An eagle on 12 gave him a two-hole cushion.

Homa closed to a hole down after Jaeger's double bogey on 15. The two halved 16 before Jaeger closed out the match with a birdie on the par five 17th.

Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) evened the match with a 1up win over Michael Kim. Kim won three straight holes to take an early 3up advantage through four. He maintained that margin when Fox's par at eight cut the lead to two holes.

Fox parred 12 and birdied 13 to square the match. Kim parred 14 to go back up one, but Fox was quick to respond. Back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 gave him a one-hole lead which he held through 18 for the win.

That left Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) on the course for the Mocs. After taking an early two-hole lead, Robb was behind one hole heading to 17, his 14th hole of the day. His birdie squared his matched with Keelan Kilpatrick but Kilpatrick answered winning the next three holes to take the 3&1 win and the match for the Bears.

"I'm proud of how we fought this week," head coach Mark Guhne commented. "We battled and had a chance to win the whole thing if a couple of things go our way. Everyone contributed and that's exactly what I expected to see. It's momentum we need to carry over to this weekend."

Chattanooga is headed to the Linger Longer Invitational this weekend, March 24-25, at the Landing Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation. Live scoring can be accessed on via the men's golf schedule page.
