Mocs Soccer Nets Pair of Wins in Spring Finale
Lauren Wilson (20) was one of four players to score two goals Saturday afternoon at Finley
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team closed out the spring season with wins over visiting Covenant College and Tennessee Temple on a gorgeous spring afternoon at Finley Stadium.

In the opening game, the Mocs had many opportunities to score, but had a difficult time finding the back of the net in the 2-0 win over Covenant College. The Scots helped Chattanooga out giving UTC its first score on an own goal. That tally would remain throughout most of the match. Late in the second half, senior Donna-Kay Henry (Queens Village, N.Y.) moved from keeper to forward and after a few attempts, scored past the Scots' goalie for the 2-0 advantage.

After a short rest, the Mocs returned to the pitch to take on intra-city foe Tennessee Temple in the closer and came away with an 8-0 victory on goals from five different players.

Chattanooga junior Kelsey Swann (Hixson, Tenn.) got the scoring started in the first half. Freshman Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.) picked up the ball and raced down the right side sending a shot toward the goal from about 10 yards out. The Temple keeper blocked the shot but failed to corral the ball and junior Kelsey Swann picked it up and scored over the keeper from about three yards out on the right.

The Mocs second goal came from the Southern Conference's leading scorer in 2011, junior Becca Smith (Murfreesboro, Tenn.). With three defenders around her, she went around two and booted the ball past the keeper from about 12 yards out from the middle.

Mackezyk made it 3-0 in favor of the Mocs with the first of her two goals. Swann sent her a pass that she pushed downfield before pulling up at 15 yards and knocking it home before the half.

In the second half, Chattanooga put in five tallies started by Henry's soft touch by the Temple keeper with an assist by freshman Andi Argueta (Clarksville, Tenn.). Mackezyk banged in her second goal of the day after taking a pass from junior Kelly Crew (Brisbane, Australia) on the right. Her shot glanced off the keeper about two feet off the ground and ricocheted off the right post and into the net to make it a 5-0 UTC lead.

Junior Lauren Wilson (Columbia, Tenn.) notched two of Chattanooga's final three goals with her first hitting at just 10 yards out. Smith followed it scorching the net with her second goal of the day from 30 yards out before Wilson hit home the Mocs' eighth goal from about 15 yards out on the right.

The Mocs close out the spring season at 4-0 and will host a full slate of home matches in the fall semester.
