Smith Scores in 2-1 Loss to Georgia Southern
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga fell 2-1 to Georgia Southern Friday night at Finley Stadium in Southern Conference women's soccer action.

The Mocs fall to 6-8-2 (1-7-1 SoCon) on the year while the Eagles improve their record to 6-8-2 (4-4-1 SoCon). Chattanooga will close out its home slate Sunday afternoon against Davidson at 2 p.m.

Georgia Southern quickly scored going up 1-0 in the first minute on a goal from Carlee Storey. Sara Oland sent a pass to Storey in front of the goal and Storey sent the shot in from 12 yards out for her third goal of the season.

In the 31st minute the Eagles struck again to go up 2-0. Paige Grant scooted a pass down the sideline to Alex Murphy who took the ball in for a score, netting her sixth goal of the year. Chattanooga managed to shut down GSU, but it wouldn't be enough as the Mocs could only muster one goal.

That goal came off the foot of league-leading scorer junior Becca Smith Murfreesboro, Tenn.). Senior Donna-Kay Henry pushed the ball down the left side, sidestepping her defender. At the end line, she was able to send a shot from the left side of the goal to Smith who booted the shot into the top middle of the goal to cut Georgia Southern's lead in half.

Chattanooga outshot the Eagles 16-15 with six shots from Smith and four from freshman Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.). Henry contributed three while freshman Becky VanHorn (Marietta, Ga.) had two. Georgia Southern's Alex Murphy came off the bench to lead the Eagles with seven shots.

Sophomore keeper Taylor Mangrum (Franklin, Tenn.) had five saves with four in the second half. GSU's Katie Merson had five saves as well.

Chattanooga will honor seniors Danielle Barr (Hixson, Tenn.) and Donna-Kay Henry (Queens Village,N.Y.) before Sunday's 2 p.m. kickoff. Admission is free to all home Chattanooga soccer games.
