Mocs Now Tied Atop SoCon Standings After Dominating Win at Davidson
Freshman Trey Stavrum
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team moved into a tie for first place in the Southern Conference standings with a dominating 47-3 win at Davidson today.  The Mocs benefitted from two forfeits and then posted bonus points in all seven of their wins to improve to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in league matches.

It was also the 38th SoCon win in a row for UTC who improves to 21-0 all time against the Wildcats.  The Mocs have not lost a league contest since falling to The Citadel on Feb. 14, 2004, in Charleston, S.C.  Chattanooga is tied atop the SoCon leader board with Appalachian State who is 9-3 overall and 3-0 in conference action.

The match opened with a forfeit by Davidson at heavyweight.  The Wildcats then got their lone win of the day when Matt Zarth posted an 8-3 decision over freshman Blake Thomas (Cleveland, Tenn.) at 125.  Freshman Nick Soto (Spring Hill, Fla.) followed with one of three major decisions for Chattanooga.  Ranked No. 14 in the nation at 133, Soto improves to 19-4 and 10-2 in dual matches.

Seniors Dan Waddell (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Brandon Wright (Germantown, Tenn.) also had major decision wins at 156 and 165, respectively.

"Brandon Wright is getting on a roll and he looked really good today," stated head coach Heath Eslinger.  "Dan was solid as usual and helped to gain some momentum as we go into two tough matches in the next two weeks."

Sophomore Shawn Greevy (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) won his seventh straight with a pin over Benjamin Hartshorn at 133.  Junior Robert Prigmore (Southlake, Texas) also scored a fall at 197.  He was wrestling up a weight in place of junior Niko Brown (Kissimmee, Fla.).  Brown injured his knee in Friday's match at Campbell and was unable to go today.

Freshman Trey Stavrum (Chattanooga, Tenn.) had the other pin at 174.  He improves to 7-3 overall and gets his first conference win.

"Trey did a great job," added Eslinger.  "He stepped in when we needed him and came away with as good of a result as you could ask for."

UTC closes out the three-match road trip with a visit to The Citadel next weekend.  The Mocs take on the Bulldogs (5-6-1, 1-1 SoCon) on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T.).  Links for live scoring and pay-per-view video are available on the wrestling schedule page on
