The Lady Mocs began the week by completing a 10-game homestand with a split 9-8 and 3-6 against UAB. Junior second baseman Ninjja Suetsugu (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had a walk-off single to complete the game one victory, while senior shortstop Jessica Traxler (Chino Hills, Calif.) and freshman third baseman Sarah Beth Roberts (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) registered back-to-back home runs to begin the bottom of the third.
In the weekend series at Samford, Chattanooga out-scored the Bulldogs by a 38-5 margin as the teams played just 15 innings combined due to the run rule.
Senior Michelle Fuzzard (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was the key contributor in game one going 4-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBI. Roberts notched a 2-for-2 performance with three runs batted in. Deason and Fuzzard combined for the shutout in a 9-0 decision that included seven strikeouts.
The second game of the doubleheader was no different as junior first baseman Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.) connected on a three-run homer in the first. Freshman outfielder Cheyenne Willis (Manchester, Tenn.) had a two RBI double as Fuzzard pitched a three-hit shutout.
In the finale, Samford began the game scoring four runs, but the Lady Mocs responded with a 10-run third to take a commanding 12-5 lead. Traxler blasted a three-run homer to cap off the scoring in the third. Deason would go on to earn the win in relief of Fuzzard and was perfect with five strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.
Southern Conference Player of the Week honors went to Traxler. The Chino Hills, Calif., native went 7-for-14 at the plate with three homers and eight RBI, while posting a 1.143 slugging percentage.
