Ryan Hinson is in his first season with the Tiger coaching staff in 2012, serving as a student assistant coach. His duties include assisting Assistant Head Coach Dan Pepicelli with the pitching staff. Hinson, no relation to former Tiger John Hinson (2008,10,11), was a starter and reliever at Clemson (2006-09). He also played two years (2009,10) in the San Diego farm system and played with Wichita (KS), an independent league team, in 2011.

In his four seasons in Tigertown, the lefthander from Rock Hill, SC had a 15-8 record, two saves, 3.69 ERA, and 200 strikeouts in 219.1 innings pitched over 85 appearances (27). His 85 appearances are fifth-most in Clemson history. As a freshman, he was a member of the 2006 College World Series team. He was also drafted three times in his career.

In 2006, Hinson had a 4-0 record and 3.82 ERA in 19 appearances (one start). Then in 2007, he had a 6-2 record and 2.74 ERA in 19 appearances (14 starts). He was fifth in the ACC in ERA and sixth in opponents' batting average (.240) as a sophomore.

As a junior in 2008, he had 62 strikeouts against only 22 walks in 68.1 innings pitched. He was drafted in the 31st round by the Pittsburgh Pirates, but elected to return for his senior year.

He closed out his career with a 2-1 record and 3.76 ERA along with 47 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched over 28 relief appearances in 2009. After his senior season, he was drafted in the 10th round by the San Diego Padres.

Prior to his four seasons at Clemson, Hinson was a standout at Northwestern High School, where he was the Upperstate player-of-the-year as a junior and senior. He was also drafted in the 28th round by the Boston Red Sox out of high school.

Hinson, who will turn 25 on May 12, is a senior who is majoring in sport management. He was born May 12, 1987 in Rock Hill, SC.
