|Lozano makes another final|
SANTA CRUZ De La SIERRA , Bolivia -- Idaho women's tennis player Victoria Lozano wrapped up her set of pro events over the weekend by advancing to her third consecutive doubles final, this time at the $10,000 Santa Cruz de La Sierra in Bolivia.
By earning ranking points in three pro events, Lozano qualifies for a world-ranking in doubles.
Lozano and doubles teammate Patricia Ku Flores had a hard-fought battle to the finals, winning 7-5, 6-4 in the first round, 6-4, 4-6 (10-7) in the quarterfinal and 6-3, 6-4 over the top-seeded duo in the semifinal to advance to the championship match. There, they lost 7-6, 6-4, coming up just short of their second straight doubles title.
"We're all really proud of Vicky's achievements over the last three weeks," Idaho coach Dan Pollock said. "She has done a great job competing against professional players and has shown that she has the skills to compete with anyone she steps on a court with. I can't wait to get her back here in fall to build on her success and work hard to further develop her game."
Although she was competing in professional events, Lozano entered as an amateur and maintains her collegiate eligibility.
