MOSCOW, Idaho - Sarah Conwell tallied 24 kills, 18 digs and seven blocks to help Idaho to a come-from-behind five-set victory over Fresno State in Idaho's home opener at Memorial Gym Saturday.

The Vandals used set scores of 22-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, and 15-10 to improve to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Bulldogs dropped to 8-7 and 1-2 with the loss.

"It was good for us to get this win," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. "The players fought through and stayed in it all the way. We were able to take them out of their system with our serving. We forced them to go to their outsides and then we played good defense."

Conwell finished with a .258 hitting percentage while Anna McKinney totaled eight kills and hit .400. She also finished with seven blocks. Katie Tribley earned a double-double with 43 assists and 10 digs while also adding a career-high six blocks. Debbie Pederson served up three aces and tallied seven blocks and Meredith Rice finished with a career-high 27 digs. Cassie Hamilton totaled 12 digs while Janelle Chow added 11.

As a team, Idaho held the advantage in nearly every statistical category. The Vandals hit .184 compared to .073 for Fresno State, finished with 82 digs to Fresno State's 80, and totaled 15 blocks compared to 10 for the Bulldogs.

Idaho excited a crowd of 1,701 in its first home game of the season; the fourth-highest total in Vandal history. With the win, the Vandals improved to 45-19 at home since 2003.

The Vandals play at home in their next match as hosts to Louisiana Tech Thursday (Oct. 8). The WAC match begins at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym.
