Rob Walden is in his third season with the ORU Athletic Department and his first as Director of Media Relations. In his position, Walden oversees the publicity efforts for the Golden Eagle volleyball, women’s basketball and tennis programs. He also serves as a secondary play-by-play announcer for ORU women’s basketball games, including the team’s 2011 Women’s NIT run.

Walden came to ORU from the University of West Florida, in Pensacola. While at UWF, Walden was instrumental in boosting the school’s audio and video broadcast efforts. Walden oversaw the launch of UWF’s athletic video broadcast package, leading the online streaming of more than 70 UWF sporting events during the 2010-11 season. He also was was the play-by-play broadcaster for more than 100 UWF athletic broadcasts, including the Argonaut baseball team’s run to the NCAA Division II National Championship.

A native of Woodruff, S.C., Walden has experience in athletic media relations at the NCAA Division I and II levels.  Walden graduated from Newberry College in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, and he served as a Sports Information Student Assistant in each of his four years at the Newberry, S.C. institution.

In 2011, Walden obtained an M.S. in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala.

As a Sports Information Intern at Charleston Southern University in 2009-10, Walden served as the primary media relations contact for the Buccaneers’ baseball and golf teams, and he also served as a secondary contact for football and men’s basketball.  In addition to his sports information duties, he also took over as the play-by-play voice for all CSU men’s basketball radio broadcasts.

Prior to his year at Charleston Southern, Walden spent one year at Brevard College during the school’s first season as an official Division II institution in the South Atlantic Conference.  At Brevard he produced and hosted all radio broadcasts for football, basketball and baseball as well as leading the department’s media relations efforts.
