ORU Sweeps 400's and Pole Vault at Track-It Meet
WICHITA, Kan.-Oral Roberts swept the 400m dash and pole vault events on both the men's and women's side, highlighting a solid performance by the Golden Eagles at the Track-It Buster Invitational at Wichita State Saturday.
TK Whitfield ran a season-best 55.25 in the 400m dash to win the event, her first individual victory since winning the indoor 200m dash at the Oklahoma Christian Invite on February 6, 2010. Cornesha Wilkerson ran 56.48 in the event to claim fifth overall.
Lauren McFarland cleared a career-best 3.92m (12-10.25) to easily win the pole vault, besting the second-place finisher by .15 meters, while Jack Whitt also blew away the competition on the men's side, clearing 5.35m to win, beating the second-place finisher by .39 meters. Dustin Gehrke finished tied for third with a mark of 4.81m.
Kristen Radcliff finished third overall in the 1,500m run with a career-best time of 4:28.72. Erin Patterson, Whitfield, Marrisa Thomas and Wilkerson combined to run 3:48.85 to finish second overall in the 4x400m relay.
Camila Pirelli's mark of 13.50m (44-3.5) was an outdoor career best and was good enough for third place overall in the event.
Boyea Lockett and Zuva Bvekerwa each qualified for the finals in the 100m dash, with Lockett tying for second overall with a time of 10.66 seconds, a season-best time but with a strong tailwind that disqualified the time for NCAA purposes. Bvekerwa finished seventh in the finals, running 11.13 seconds.
A battle down the stretch, the 4x400m relay team of Jeramy Roberts, Williams, John Bradford and Gibson combined to run a season-best 3:10.41, but was edged at the end by Stephen F. Austin, giving the Golden Eagles second in the event.
Tim Jones claimed second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.73m to round out the top ORU finishers.
After taking a break for finals, the Golden Eagles will return to the track on May 10-12 for the 2012 Summit League Championships in Fargo, N.D.
