Bison edge Jacks for Dakota Cup
MORTON, Minn. - The North Dakota State men's and women's golf teams combined to beat South Dakota State by eight points, 52-44, for the Dakota Cup on Sunday at Dacotah Ridge Golf Course.
The annual event used a modified Stableford scoring system (eight points for a double eagle, five for an eagle, three for a birdie, one for a par, negative one for a bogey and negative three for a double bogey or worse) to determine the winner of the two-day event.
The Jackrabbit men scored 104 points (34-70). Greg Fehrman led the men with a score of 38 (10-28). Hudson Carpenter tallied 30 points (14-16). Dillon Shultz registered 22 points (2-22). David Smith scored 10 points (-2-12). Lukas Davison scored 10 points on Saturday. Today, Nolan Meyer replaced Davison and scored negative six.
The Jackrabbit women scored -60 points (-26- -34). Morgan Fitts led the women with a score of eight (6-2). Brittany Hanten tallied four points (4-0). Amber Houser registered negative two points (-2-0). Alli Plath tallied -14 points (-12- -2). Lindsey Eisenhuth registered -16 points (-10- -6). Myranda Dunmire carded -18 points (-8- -10), and Jordan Trohkimoinen scored -22 points (-4- -18).
The NDSU men scored 62 points (44-18), while the women scored -10 (-18-8). The University of South Dakota did not post a team score because two men had to withdraw.
Nathan Anderson led the Bison men with a score of 24 (16-8), and his twin sister Amy led the women with 28 points (8-20).
This is the first time the Bison have held the Dakota Cup since the inaugural year of the event in 2005. The Jackrabbits have won every other year except 2008 when the event was cancelled because of the weather.
This concludes the 2011-12 season for the Jackrabbits.
