BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb first baseman Dusty Quattlebaum was named first-team Capital One Academic All-District III for the second season in a row, and will be eligible for Academic All-America voting later this spring.

The University Division in District III represents all NCAA Division I programs in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Student-athletes selected first team All-District will be eligible for the Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team honorees will be selected later this month.

The teams are voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Quattlebaum (Boiling Springs, N.C. / Crest HS) is a redshirt senior who carries a 3.83 cumulative grade point average in Sports Management.

His 2012 honor is the latest in a long list of accomplishments in Boiling Springs. Quattlebaum was the first Gardner-Webb baseball player to earn first-team Capital One Academic All-America honors last season, and also earned Big South Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-District accolades.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound slugger has continued to excel on the field as well in 2012, batting .315 with six home runs, 32 RBI and 25 runs scored. He also leads the Runnin’ Bulldogs with 11 doubles and a .494 slugging percantage this season.

Gardner-Webb (25-21, 7-8 Big South) will get back to action Friday night, May 4, hosting Radford at 6:00 pm in the first of a key, three-game series at John Henry Moss Stadium/Bill Masters Field.
