A Glance At The Squad

UNCG enters the NCAA Regional off back-to-back tournament victories during the month of April. In the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, the Spartans finished eight strokes lower than any other team at 18-under 834. Then two weeks later, the Spartans scored their second-straight Southern Conference Championship, besting second place ETSU by 12 strokes.

In total, UNCG has won four tournaments this year, a new program record.

The Spartans have been led by the trio of senior Bryce Hendrix, junior Jonathan Brightwell and sophomore Nick Lyerly.  Entering the NCAA Regionals, they have the three-lowest single-season stroke averages in program history. Additionally, all three were named to the All-SoCon Team.

Sophomore Zack Swanson, meanwhile, is coming off a career-best third place finish at the SoCon Championship while junior Grant Powell has been on five tournament-winning teams since transferring to UNCG.

During Monday’s first round, UNCG will begin on the 10th Tee and be paired with Georgia Southern and Augusta.
