Beach Volleyball Coaching Staff
With Brock at the helm, the Tigers have cemented themselves as one of the top beach volleyball programs in the nation. In his first two seasons, Brock has led LSU to 54 victories, 27 each year, and have been one of the final six teams at the NCAA Championship both years. In 2017 and 2018 Brock has helped lead LSU to national prominence, maintaining a top-10 ranking in the AVCA poll over the entirety of his tenure thus far and picking up win streaks of 23 and 14 along the way. In his first year leading the Tigers, Brock was named the CCSA Coach of the Year after leading LSU to its first NCAA Championship appearance. Since being named the head coach prior the 2017 season, Brock has led the Tigers to an impressive 54-22 record.
Brock has helped coach four players to the CCSA All-Freshmen team, including the Co-CCSA Freshman of the Year, Lilly Kessler, during his final season as the associate head coach. In his first season as the official head coach, Brock led the Tigers to their first appearance at the NCAA Championship, taking home Coach of the Year honors. He has coached two All-Americans, both coming from Court 1 and playing as partners, Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss. Brock coached the Tigers’ top duo to the CCSA Pair of the Year in 2018. Coppola and Nuss followed that up with a win at the USAV Collegiate Beach Championships in May of 2018, earning a spot in the FISU World University Games later that year.
Prior to joining LSU, Brock spent eight seasons with the indoor volleyball program at Rice University. He served as a volunteer coach from 2006 to 2008 before being promoted to assistant coach in 2009. The Owls totaled 141 wins, two NCAA tournament trips and the program’s first Conference USA championship in 2009. Brock helped in the development of middle blockers. He coached Natalie Bogan and Nancy Cole to AVCA All-American honors, and coached four of the top seven players on Rice’s all-time total blocks list.
Before joining the coaching staff at Rice, Brock spent 11 years at Baytown Christian Academy in Texas as the school’s athletic director and operations manager. He coached the girls’ volleyball team and won four Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools state titles. Brock was also a standout athlete at the University of Southern California, leading the program’s all-time record in digs tallying 956, a record he held for 10 years. He also set an NCAA record with 45 matches with 10-plus digs. Brock graduated from USC in 1996 with a B.S. in exercise science.
He and his wife, Kristi, have two daughters, Brooklynn, Kaelynn, and one son, Kory.
