Charlie Hubbard was named head men's soccer coach in March 2019. This promotion came after one season as associate head coach and two seasons as assistant coach for the men's soccer coaching staff. During these three seasons at the Institute, Hubbard served as recruiting coordinator. His efforts were crucial in the recruitment of two all-freshman team honorees, the first two since rejoining the Southern Conference. Those recruiting efforts paid dividends in 2018 when the team had its best season in five years and took strides forward. During his time at VMI, Hubbard has been involved in all aspects of the program.
Hubbard came to VMI in 2016 after serving for two years as an assistant men's soccer coach at Dallas Baptist University (DBU) in Dallas, Texas. He was instrumental in developing a plan for team development and recruiting that helped the program to its best season since its reinstatement. Overseeing a head coaching transition during the 2015 season, Hubbard maintained all recruits and independently traveled and coached the team on multiple occasions. At DBU he was involved in all aspects of the program including budget management, recruiting, scouting, and training.
Prior to DBU, Hubbard served as an assistant men's and women's soccer coach at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Kentucky during the 2013-14 season. He assisted both programs to qualify for the NCAA DIII tournament, while the women's team earned its first Sweet Sixteen appearance and No. 14 national ranking.
Hubbard was a four-year student-athlete at Palm Beach Atlantic University (DII) in West Palm Beach, Florida, setting a school record by playing in 84 games from 2009-2013.
Hubbard graduated with a Master of Arts in Sports Management in 2016 from Dallas Baptist University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2013.
He holds a USSF “B” License. Hubbard resides in Lexington, VA with his wife Rachel who works in Admissions at W&L Law.
