Adriano Di Peco enters his fourth season as an assistant coach on the Columbia volleyball staff. He was hired in March of 2014 after 10 years of coaching in Italian youth and professional leagues.

Di Peco has been alongside head coach Brie Katz since she was elevated to head coach in 2014. The tandem has helped the Lions increase their Ivy League win total over each of their first three seasons together. It included a ladmark 2016 campaign in which Columbia went 9-5 in league play to finish third and tie for the most Ivy League wins in program history. The 2016 season also saw the Lions go 14-10 overall, putting together a six-game winning streak and an 11-3 record at home, including a 6-1 mark inside Levien Gymnasium against Ivy League competition. Three Lions were named All-Ivy League, including first team selections Cassie Wes and Chichi Ikwuazom, as well as second team honoree Anja Malesevic. Wes was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, while Ikwuazom became the first Lion in program history to earn Ivy League Rookie of the Year distinction.

In 2015, the Lions went 7-16 overall and were sixth in the Ivy League with a record of 5-9. Senior Katarina Jovicic and junior Cassie Wes each earned Second Team All-Ivy Honors, with Wes also capturing the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

During his first season on the bench in 2014, the Lions went 8-15 overall and tied for sixth in the Ivy League with a 4-10 mark against Ancient Eight opponents. He also helped Columbia secure the program's first victory over Penn at The Palestra and coached Bailey Springer to Second Team All-Ivy Leauge honors.

Di Peco arrived in New York City in August 2013 after 10 years of coaching in Italian youth and professional leagues.  In the Italian National Youth Championships, Di Peco coached 11 teams to Sweet Sixteen appearances, advancing to the finals three times.  In 2009 Di Peco’s team won the U18 Italian Championship.

Currently, Adriano serves as the technical director for CALI volleyball club on Long Island, but from 2003 to 2006 Di Peco worked for two Italian Regional League teams as an assistant coach and scout.  In 2006, he began coaching for MRomavolley, one of the most acclaimed professional club teams in Italy. During his six years with MRomavolley, Di Peco worked as head coach, assistant coach and scout for various levels and age groups, including U16, U18, U20, C Regional League, B2, B1, A2 and A1 National Leagues.

“I am thrilled to have Adriano on our coaching staff,” commented Katz up his hire. “His technical expertise is matched by his passion for the game, and with his international volleyball background he brings a wealth of high-level experience to our program. Adriano will assist in every facet of our program.  He has already made a big impact in our on-court training and the way we use video to scout and recruit.”

As a student at Sapienza University of Rome, Di Peco earned two undergraduate degrees in physical education and coaching and physical Therapy, as well as a Master’s degree in health and rehabilitation sciences. Di Peco graduated with honors with all three degrees, and published his research, “Relationships between Motor Imagery and Oneric Imagery in Stroke Patient Rehabilitation” in Science of Rehabilitation in 2010.  In addition to coaching, Di Peco worked as a physical therapist from 2009-2013, and volunteered as a tutor in San Filippo Neri Hospital helping PT students deliver Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise treatments to patients with neurological and orthopedic injuries.
