SAN MARCOS, Texas (5/10/18) – Championship weekend has arrived as the Arkansas State track and field teams have arrived in San Marcos, Texas, for the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Texas State University.

The A-State men, coming off an indoor title earlier this year, carry eight leading marks on the Sun Belt Conference performance list. The Red Wolves will be in search of their second outdoor crown in the last three seasons after winning the title in 2016. On the women’s side, A-State has three marks leading the SBC list with five more ranking second. The women are in search of an outdoor championship for the first time since 2015.

Jaylen Bacon, the high point scorer at the indoor championships, leads the league in the 100-meter dash at 10.09 seconds while ranking second in the 200-meter dash at 20.77 seconds. Bacon has run the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay that leads the conference at 40.06 seconds, the second-fastest time in program history.

School record marks in the discus throw (57.45m/188-6) by Itamar Levi and hammer throw (68.73m/225-6) by Cristian Ravar Ladislau lead the league heading into the weekend. Levi is poised for a big weekend as he ranks second in the shot put (18.83m/61-9.50). Michael Carr is tied for the lead in the pole vault at 5.50m (18-00.50), the fourth-best vault in program history. Hayden Hampton has the highest point total in the decathlon at 6,849 among his SBC peers and Nick Hilson has the fastest 400-meter hurdles time at 51.49 seconds. Carter Shell, the SBC Indoor Freshman and Newcomer of the Year, leads the league in the long jump (7.69m/25-2.75) and is second in the triple jump (15.04m/49-4.25).

Calea Carr has conference leading marks in shot put (15.49m/50-10.00) and discus throw (52.55m/172-5.00) as the Red Wolves head to San Marcos. Caitland Smith, who did not run at the indoor championships, leads the field in the 100-meter dash (11.44) and ranks second in the 200-meter dash (23.37). A-State features the second-ranked throwers in the shot put and discus throw with Danielle Lorenz (14.86m/48-9.00) and Babette Vandeput (51.29m/168-3).
