The 2012 Western Water Polo Association Women's Championship Tournament will take place April 27-29 at Canyonview Aquatic Center. UCSD, looking to defend its 2011 conference title, plays host to eight other WWPA squads. The winner of the conference tournament advances to the eight-team NCAA Championships May 11-13 at San Diego State. Check back on for the tournament central webpage in the near future.

The Tritons will stick in town this weekend for the annual Aztec Invitational at SDSU and will face three Top 20 teams to open the tournament. UCSD starts the competition against No. 11 Indiana before playing No. 18 Princeton on Saturday afternoon. No. 14 Hawaii awaits on Sunday morning before the Tritons face Bucknell to end the Invite. UCSD is 2-7 against ranked teams this season.

The Tritons also faced Princeton and Indiana in last year's Aztec Invite, falling to the Tigers 13-12 in overtime, and dropping a 9-4 decision to the Hoosiers on the final day. Kirsten Bates scored four goals against Princeton before adding a goal and a steal against IU. UCSD was 0-4 at the 2011 edition.

UCSD downed CSU on Friday night at Canyonview Pool, 9-4, to improve to 4-1 in WWPA play. The Rams led early, 2-1, but UCSD recovered to take a one-goal lead into halftime. UCSD pulled away with three goals in each of the final quarters, holding CSU to just a single score in each frame. Bates scored four goals while Katherine Biehle contributed two. Melissa Bartow registered a season-high three field blocks in the game. UCSD opened the season with a 14-11 win at CSU on January 26.

UCSD stuck around early in its 15-7 loss on Saturday at No. 7 Loyola Marymount, however, LMU limited UCSD to just a single goal in each of the second and third quarters while outscoring the Tritons 7-2 to pull away. Sarah Lizotte and Allison Delgado led the Tritons with a pair of scores while Bates, Emily McPhee and Bartow each pitched-in with a goal. WWPA Player of the Week Kimberly Benedetti scored six goals for LMU.

McPhee's goal on Saturday at LMU was the first of her career ... Kat Anderson tallied her first two shot attempts and first field block of the year over the weekend ... Delgado scored two goals against LMU and added her first assist of the season ... CSU's four goals on Friday evening matched a season-low for goals surrendered by UCSD this year ... UCSD has won three of its last five games ... UCSD is 3-1 against Bucknell all-time.
