HAYWARD, Calif. - Danny Susdorf had three hits and Greg Selarz gave up just one run over 6.1 innings of work as the UC San Diego baseball team took a 4-1 victory in the series finale at Cal State East Bay Sunday.
The Tritons scored a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth to ice the victory, splitting the four-game series against its league opponent.
UCSD held a 4-0 lead through six and a half innings to improve to 8-12 overall and 6-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CSUEB, after winning games two and three of the four-game series, dropped to 7-10 and 2-6.
The Tritons took a 1-0 lead with a single run in the fourth inning. Center fielder Danny Susdorf led off with a single to right and moved to third on a bunt single by left fielder Gregg Ringold. Designated hitter Nick La Face drove in Susdorf with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Tritons went up 4-0 with three runs in the sixth inning. Susdorf again led off the frame with a single to right-center. Ringold singled and La Face knocked in Susdorf with a sacrifice fly to right. Garrett Tuck later doubled and Scott Liske singled to drive in two more runs.
The Pioneers got on the board with their lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. East Bay loaded the bases on two hits and a walk. An infield error allowed second baseman Eddite Rettagliata to score for the Pioneers' lone run of the game.
Triton starter Greg Selarz improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory. He let in just the one run on eight hits through 6.1 innings. Richard Kilbury and Sean Rowan combined to keep CSUEB scoreless over the last 2.2 innings.
Brandyn Bell dropped to 1-3 as he also threw 6.1 innings and surrendered the four runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking none.
Susdorf finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored while second baseman Spencer Frazier, Ringold and Tuck all had two hits apiece.
UCSD returns home to host a four-game set against Cal State Monterey Bay Mar. 9-11.
