Camille Gaito Named CCAA Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UC San Diego ace Camille Gaito has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 13-19, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.

Gaito (6-1), a senior from San Rafael, Calif., went 3-0 with a save, 0.00 ERA and two complete games while helping the Tritons to a four-game sweep of Cal State Stanislaus. In 17 2/3 innings, she allowed nine hits, an unearned run, walked two and struck out 11.

In the opening game of the series on Friday afternoon, she limited the Warriors to only five hits while striking out a pair of batters over seven innings of work in UCSD's 4-1 win. She then came on in the seventh inning of game two as the teams were tied 4-4, limiting CSUS to just a single base runner while striking out five of the 11 batters she faced. Tritons prevailed by one in the bottom of the ninth inning.

On Saturday, Gaito turned in a two-hit complete game shutout in the opening game as UCSD won 8-0 via run-rule, striking out three Warriors without surrendering a walk. She then finished off the series with 1 2/3 innings of work for a save in UCSD's 2-1 win in the finale.

For the year, Gaito's ERA stands at 1.31 and she has limited opponents to an overall batting average of .192 in 42 2/3 innings. She is UCSD's all-time career victories leader with 71.
