2019 Cross Country Stats

Both the men’s and women’s teams are coming off of back-to-back victories at the Nicholls Invitational and the LSU Invitational. The Tigers got a lot of help last week at the 2019 LSU Invitational 5k competition from a few runners making their season debut. Eric Coston and Adam Wise ran their first race of the 2019 season for the Tigers and made an immediate impact.  Coston (14:49.43) and Wise (14:57.37) were the first collegiate runners to cross the finish line and placed in second and third overall respectively. Freshman Davis Bove made his college debut and put together a very impressive performance. Bove finished in sixth place overall with a time of 15:15.26 which was good enough to earn himself the SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week. He became only the second male runner to ever win this award at LSU.

Just like the men, the women’s squad got some help from a runner making her season debut at the LSU Invitational.  Sophomore Katy-Ann McDonald competed in her first meet of the season and finished in first place in the 5k competition (17:24.33). Sara Funderburk was the second Tiger to finish with a time of 18:18.81 which was good enough for second place. Following Funderburk was junior Alicia Stamey who placed sixth overall with a time of 18:56.15.

The 2019 Joe Piane Invitational will be the fourth of five regular season meets before the SEC Championships are held on Nov. 1.  You can view the rest of the schedule at lsusports.net
