Cross Country is the BASF Team of the Month

Baton Rouge, La. – The LSU cross country program has been named the BASF Team of the Month for September after winning four titles (2 women, 2 men) in dominant fashion during the second month of their season.
Both teams picked up their first wins of the season on Sept. 21 at the Nicholls Invitational in Thibodaux, La. The women won their race with a team score of 23 points, and the men captured the team title with 31 points. Alicia Stamey (2nd/19:08.84), Sara Funderburk (3rd/19:13.33), Adele Broussard (4th/19:15.53), and Amber Desselle (5th/19:16.64) took four of the top five spots in the 5k race for the women. On the men’s side, Thomas Laville Jr. led the way for the men with a four-mile time of 21:13.77 for fourth place, and George Femmer took fifth (21:20.21).
The Tigers closed out the month of September with a pair of wins at the LSU Invitational that was hosted at Highland Road Park on Sept. 27; the women won with a team total of 26 points, and the men finished with a total of 25 points. Katy-Ann McDonald won the first cross country race of her career with a 5k time of 17:24.33 to lead the women’s side. Funderburk (2nd/18:18.81), Stamey (6th/18:56.15), Desselle (7th/19:00.49) and Jennifer Bennett (10th/19:21.56) all registered top-10 finishes for LSU to secure the win. The men were led by Eric Coston and Adam Wise, both of whom were making their season debuts. Coston clocked a 5k time of 14:49.43 to take the top collegiate spot and finish second overall. Wise checked in with a 5k time of 14:57.37 to place third overall. Davis Bove (6th/15:15.26), Laville Jr. (9th/15:19.12) and Femmer (10th/15:38.91) rounded out the scoring efforts for the men.
