Swimming & Diving Enjoys Sweep of Tulane
NEW ORLEANS -- The LSU women's Swimming and Diving team (3-1, 1-1 SEC) won every event and defeated Tulane (1-2) by a score of 174-69.
"Overall, it was a great team performance. The women came in with sort of a chip on their shoulder and really stepped up," Swimming Coach Dave Geyer said. "From the first relay to the last relay, they refused to be beat in anything. It was a great team performance from top to bottom."
The Lady Tigers will host North Carolina State tomorrow at 2 p.m. (CT) in the LSU Natatorium. All admission to home meets is free of charge.
Junior swimmer Rainey White led LSU with two individual victories and one relay victory. White touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (56.02) and the 50 freestyle (23.85).
Freshman diver Cassie Weil, last week's SEC Female Diver of the Week, earned her third career victory with a first place finish on the three-meter springboard (297.45).
Sophomore diver Alex Bettridge picked up her first victory of the season on the one-meter springboard with a score of 253.42.
"I thought our performance was good. We came in, we warmed up and we dove well in two events," Diving Coach Doug Shaffer said. "Now we're going to turn around, go home, rest and get ready for NC State."
Bussey added an individual win in the 100 breaststroke with a season best time of 1:03.88.
Stirrat became the first LSU swimmer to break the five-minute barrier in the 500 free (4:59.91) this season in a first place swim.
Sophomore Amber Carter scored a pair of victories in the 100 free (51.67) and the 200 free (1:53.69).
Senior Sara Haley, LSU's top 200 fly swimmer the past two seasons, earned her first career victory in the 1000 free with a team season best of 10:20.75.
Sophomore Katlin Sepp took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.53.
Senior Kaelee Mader chipped in with a victory in the 200 individual medley (2:08.97).
"I'm hoping we can take the momentum of tonight, come with that same attitude tomorrow and hopefully not get too complacent," Geyer said. "I want us to use this momentum to carry us tomorrow and for the rest of the season."
