DURHAM, N.C. – Senior attackman Justin Guterding posted eight points on five goals and three assists to propel No. 2 Duke to an 18-6 victory over visiting High Point on Thursday night at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils have scored 18 goals in each of its first two games and held teams to a combined 10 goals.

Behind one goal and two assists from Guterding, the Blue Devils scored the night’s first six goals and held a 9-2 advantage at intermission.  Six more markers – including a pair by Reilly Walsh – for Duke in the third quarter pushed the lead to 15-4 after 45 minutes of action.

Defensively, Duke held the Panthers to just 21 shots in the game and only four in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils’ efficiency on offense was superb as they scored six third-quarter goals on only nine shots.

Freshman Joe Robertson contributed a hat trick while Peter Conley tallied the first two goals of his Duke career as the Blue Devils outshot the Panthers, 41-21.  Overall, four different Blue Devils tallied multiple goals and 10 had at least one, including rookie Cameron Mulé with the first of his career.

Greg Pelton scooped up a career-high eight ground balls, helping Duke control the faceoff X by winning 16-of-27 restarts. Brian Smyth went 11-of-18 at the X and had the game’s first tally.

In the Duke net, starter Danny Fowler earned the win with four saves against just two goals allowed in 30 minutes.

For High Point, Chris Young paced the offense with two goals while goalkeeper Tim Troutner Jr., was credited with 10 saves.

Duke hosts Jacksonville on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and can be seen on the WatchESPN platform.
