DURHAM, N.C. – The 14th-ranked Duke women’s basketball team cruised to a 101-30 victory over Winthrop Sunday afternoon in Cameron Indoor Stadium.  In the win, the Blue Devils cleared the 100-point mark for the first time since November 15, 2016 against Longwood and the eighth time under the direction of head coach Joanne P. McCallie.

McCallie is now three wins away from reaching 600 wins for her collegiate coaching career as Duke moves to 8-2 on the year and 6-0 in Durham.

Fifth-year senior Lexie Brown nearly tied her career-high this afternoon with a whopping 30 points while redshirt sophomore Haley Gorecki notched an additional 20 for a career-high. Brown totaled 20+ points for the fourth time this season and 30th time in her Duke career.

Brown went 13-of-21 from the floor, 2-of-7 from three-point land and brought down four rebounds to go along with six assists and six steals. Gorecki continued her impressive season, starting her first game of the year and second of her career as she went 7-for-11 from the field, 5-of-7 from behind the arc and dished four assists.

Duke started the contest with a block from sophomore Leaonna Odom in the first minute, marking the 44th of her career. Gorecki reeled in three treys in the first period while freshman Jayda Adams notched her first in a Duke uniform. Odom extended the lead with back-to-back layups in the paint just before the shot clock expired to keep Duke ahead with a 28-5 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.

The Blue Devils went on to hold a 52-12 lead at the half.  As a team, Duke’s 52 points and 62.2 percent from the field were good for season-highs.

All 10 dressed Blue Devils saw double-digit minutes on the afternoon and several registered career-highs in numerous categories.

Fifth-year Bego Faz Davalos posted three blocks to bring the total for her career to 353. Rookie Jade Williams added two to tie her career-high.

Senior Erin Mathias spearheaded Duke’s defense with seven boards and freshman Mikayla Boykin brought down an additional seven for a career-high. Mathias added nine points, three assists and steals in 24 minutes.

The Eagles committed 28 turnovers, allowing Duke to capitalize for 45 points. The Blue Devils outrebounded Winthrop 47-24 and added 60 points in the paint. Duke also shared the ball well, registering 25 assists.

Duke will be off for eight days due to exams and will return to action before the holidays as it hosts Maine Tuesday, Dec. 19. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., on ACC Network Extra.
