DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt senior Lexie Brown registered 24 points to lead 11th-ranked Duke past in-state High Point, 77-50, in the 2017-18 home opener Thursday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium. With the victory, head coach Joanne P. McCallie moved to 11-0 in home openers since joining the Blue Devils and needs only nine additional wins to reach 600 over her 26-year career.

Brown rounded out her solid performance hitting 6-of-11 from the floor, 1-of-2 from three-point land, and added a career-best 11-for-11 free throws to reach the 20-point mark for the 17th time as a Blue Devil. Brown added four boards, three assists and six steals to round out the evening.

The opening period saw Leaonna Odom tally four quick points in the paint for a 6-2 lead in the first minute of action. Rebecca Greenwell was quick to get on the board from a mid-court steal and senior Erin Mathias recorded her first block of the game to set up a fast break opportunity for Odom. The Blue Devils finished the contest with 14 fast-break points to the Panthers 0.

Brown tallied a quick three to start the second period for the Blue Devils. Duke limited High Point to just 25.0 percent (3-of-12) shooting from the floor in the second. Entering the half, the Blue Devils led 39-28.

At halftime, Brown, Greenwell and Odom accounted for 29 of Duke’s 39 points. Duke opened the second half in style as Brown rocketed an above-the-rim pass to Odom for an easy bucket. The Blue Devils left the Panthers scoreless for nearly four minutes as Duke went on a 15-0 run of their own.

Entering the fourth quarter, Brown (20), Odom (10 and Greenwell (10) each had double-digits. Mathias joined them with 11 to end the contest to total double-digit scoring in back-to-back games for the second time in her career.

Mathias tied her career-high in blocks with two and redshirt freshman Emily Schubert tallied her first career block in her collegiate debut.

Emma Bockrath led the Panther offense as she registered a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

As a team, Duke outrebounded High Point 46-26, added a whopping 50 points in the paint and shared the ball well with 16 assists. The Blue Devils shot a season-high 50.0 percent (28-of-56) from the floor and 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the free-throw line.

The Blue Devils will hit the road for a Sunday afternoon matchup at Villanova. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m., and will be broadcast on Nova Nation.
