ANAHEIM, Calif. – Members of the Duke fencing team traveled to the West Coast Oct. 13-16 to compete at the October North American Cup (NAC), hosted by the United States Fencing Association in Anaheim, Calif.
Senior Pascual Di Tella highlighted the Blue Devil performances by placing in the top-20 in Division I Men’s Saber. Di Tella registered a perfect 6-0 record in pool play before earning a bye in the table of 256. Di Tella won two straight bouts before falling in the table of 16, ultimately finishing in 18th.
Also competing alongside Di Tella was sophomore Agoston Walter and redshirt freshman Ben Stone. Walter went 4-2 in pool play, earned a bye in the table of 256 and fell in the table of 16 to finish the day 30th out of 182. Stone also went 4-2 in pools, earned a bye in the table of 256 and was defeated in the table of 32 to garner 48th.
Freshman Maria Papadopoulos represented the Blue Devil women in Division I Women’s Epee in Anaheim. Papadopoulos concluded competition in women’s epee in 102nd after going 4-2 in the first round of pool play. Papadopoulos received a bye in the first round of direct elimination in the table of 128 before going 2-4 in the second round of pools.
Competition concluded for the Blue Devils with sophomore Aidan McGinnis and senior Alec Ajnsztajn in Division I Men’s Epee. McGinnis registered a 4-2 record in pool play, earned a bye in the table of 256 and fell in the table of 128 to finished tied for 162nd. Ajnsztajn went 3-3 in pools and was defeated in the table of 128 after receiving a bye in the table of 256.
