GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG baseball will get its first taste of what the Billy Godwin-era has in store for the coming 2020 season, with the Spartans playing hosts to three opponents this fall.
'Fall Ball' will officially open on October 6th against rising JUCO power-house Florence-Darlington Tech. Recording 40-plus wins for a third straight season, the Stingers reached the Region X tournament in 2019 before falling to USC Sumter. While being just 15 years young, the program has already tallied four region championships and an appearance in the 2017 NJCAA World Series, while producing 13 MLB draft picks since 2010.
Acadamie Baseball Canada will be in Greensboro for the Spartans' second fall contest of the season on October 17th. The Montreal-based performance program has set a standard of developing both Division I athletes and major league-level players over the years, with three alumni currently playing for SEC, ACC or Big XII programs, while providing 14 MLB draft selections since 2010.
The Spartans will wrap up the fall against Louisburg College on the 20th, facing off with a program that has produced 14 players to reach the majors. First-year UNCG Head Coach Billy Godwin spent seven years at the helm of the Hurricanes from 1999-2005, accruing over 250 wins during his time with the program. Two Louisburg alumni currently play in MLB minor league systems, while 19 players have been drafted directly from the program.
