ELON, N.C. - UNCG women's tennis completes the Elon Fall Invitational Sunday, recording 17 match wins over three days to open the fall season.
Opening the weekend with Friday morning doubles play, the Spartans kicked things off with a pair of wins in the Maroon bracket along with a victory in Gold doubles. The combination of Emily Ory and newcomer Ariana Chan defeated Maryann Rompf and Maggie Pate of Furman 7-5 to move into the winner's side of the Maroon section, going on to defeat Ristic and Naupari of Gardner-Webb by the same score before ending their run in the semifinals.
Erika Barquero and Hanna Giddings won their opening match of the tournament, while Tayah Cross and Brianna Gomez delivered a match win over Berghaus and Dragovic of NC Central 6-1.
After dropping her first match in singles play Barquero notched back-to-back victories over Gardner-Webb's Daniela Naupari and Emory's Emma Cartledge. The sophomore defeated Naupari in straight sets before taking her match against Cartledge in three, dropping the first set of her third match 6-2, before taking the last two frames 6-1 and 10-4.
Brianna Gomez notched a similar result while competing in the Gold bracket, falling to Alex Koniaev in straight sets, before coming back with wins against Emory's Christina Watson and Marie Fernanda Carvijal of ETSU.
Chan collected a straight set sin over Emory's Stephanie Taylor over in the Powell singles flight, while Ory did the same against NC Central's Polina Shkarova in the Phoenix bracket.
COMING UP NEXT
The Spartans take the following weekend off before heading to the Battle at the Beach in Conway, S.C. on the 27th and 28th.
