WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – UNC Greensboro volleyball split its appearances during Saturday’s action in the Colonial Classic, falling to Georgetown 3-0 in the morning match before holding off Iona 3-2 in the second match of the day.
With Saturday’s results, UNCG is now 6-4 on the season with a home match against High Point next on the docket.
Three Things To Know From Match Vs. Iona
--The Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Iona tied it up 2-2. In the deciding fifth and final set, the Spartans knocked off the Gaels 16-14.
--Senior Grace Howell led the Spartans in digs with 20.
--This was the first-ever matchup between the two squads.
Three Things To Know
--Williamsburg native Maria Esch once again led the Spartans in kills (12).
--Sophomore Mandy Garvens led the Spartans in digs with 15. It was the third time this season she has recorded at least 10 digs in a match.
--This was the second-ever meeting between UNCG and Georgetown, with the first coming during the 2009 season.
Following the Colonial Classic, UNCG will return home for a Wednesday night match against fellow Triad school High Point at Fleming Gymnasium.
