WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – UNC Greensboro volleyball came up short in the opening game of the Colonial Classic, as the Spartans on Friday evening fell to host William & Mary 3-1 (24-26, 22-25, 25-21, 23-25).
Despite dropping the first two sets including a back-and-forth affair in the opening frame, UNCG fought back winning the third set before suffering a defeat in four sets.
Three Things To Know
--This was the first-ever meeting between the SoCon and Colonial Athletic Association schools.
--Senior Maria Esch led both teams in kills (24) and digs (13) while collecting a .417 hitting percentage.
--Freshman Gabriela McHugh, meanwhile, once again led UNCG in assists (46). No other player that appeared in Friday’s match had more than 20.
The Spartans will return to the court for a pair of matches on Saturday against Georgetown (10:30 a.m.) and Iona (4 p.m.).
UNCG Volleyball is celebrating 50 years of wonderful memories dedicated to celebrating current and former student-athletes, coaches and staff who have made an impact on our family. The program will be hosting a special celebration the weekend of Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19.
