MADISON, WIS. – UNC Greensboro men’s golf, the two-time defending Southern Conference champions, began the 2019-20 season collecting a 10-over 298 in the first round of the Badger Invitational. 

The Spartans are currently in ninth place, trailing South Dakota State by three strokes for eighth place with the second round of action beginning tomorrow morning.  

Senior Jonathan Brightwell (70) is currently tied for sixth place after completing the first round at two-under par. He birdied back-to-back holes on the back-nine, which were two of his three birdies on the day. 

Junior Zack Swanson (74) sealed his first round of play at two-over par as he rebounded from a three-over on the back-nine to finish the front-nine at one-under. 

Junior Nick Lyerly (77) and junior Justin Emmons (77), meanwhile, are two of 13 who are currently tied for 63rdplace. 

Freshman Symon Balbin, who is making his college debut at the Badger Invitational, is tied for 94thplace.
