ARLINGTON, Texas - UNCG volleyball (4-1) remains undefeated at the Maverick Classic this weekend, registering a 3-1 win over Incarnate Word (2-4) with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-23. The Spartans took a commanding lead after taking back-to-back set wins over the Cardinals, but were forced to a fourth set after relinquishing the third frame. Hitters Holly Behrends (20), Maria Esch (18) and Emily Keilen (17) combined for 55 of their team's 66 kills against UIW, hitting .444, .310 and .417 respectively.

The Spartans held the lead throughout the entirety of the opening set, with Esch (7) and Behrends (4) combining for 11 kills to take the opening frame 25-21. UNCG hit .324 as a team to start the match, while holding the Cardinals to .152 in set number one. 

UNCG led by as many as seven in the second before taking the final score at 25-21. Senior Emily Keilen recorded five kills in the frame on her way to a match total of 17. The Texas-native's total came within two of tying a career-high, while she simultaneously collecting a pair of service aces. Behrends registered seven of her 20 kills on the day in that frame as well, going on to hit .444 on the day.

The Cardinals notched a comeback win in set three after falling behind 12-7, overcoming the Spartans' five-point lead in a 25-23 victory.

The fourth set was tightly held throughout, highlighted by five different lead changes and a 25-23 victory in favor of the Spartans. Coming off an 11-kill performance against Southern the day prior, Esch put up six in the fourth set alone before coming up with a total of 18 at the end of the match, as the deciding set ended 25-23 in favor of UNCG.

Three Things To Know From Match Vs. UIW
-- Freshman Gabriela McHugh tallied a career-high 57 assists in the win over the Cardinals. The first-year Spartan collected her second double-double of the season with 10 digs

-- Mandy Garvens' 17 digs were a season-high for the sophomore, coming within three of a match-high on the afternoon

-- Freshman Elayne Grisbee matched a career-high, with her four blocks going down as a match best
