STANFORD, Calif. – UNC Greensboro men’s golf (275) sits just one shot back of host Stanford after one round of play at the NCAA Stanford Regional. The Spartans spent a portion of Monday with the lead before ending the day in second place, three shots ahead of third place Georgia Southern.
The Spartans are currently ahead of three teams ranked in the top 25 in No. 2 Arizona State, No. 14 LSU and No. 24 North Carolina State. Additionally, UNCG is also ahead of No. 26 North Carolina, No. 36 South Florida, No. 38 Kansas and No. 47 Virginia.
The second round of the NCAA Stanford Regional will begin tomorrow morning and live stats will be available via Golfstat.com.
Junior Jonathan Brightwell (67) is tied for fifth place after carding a three-under 67 in the first round. Brightwell was over-par just once in the opening round while posting two birdies and an eagle on Hole 7. He is three shots back from the individual lead.
Sophomore Nick Lyerly (68) is tied for ninth place after posting a two-under 68 in the first round. After finishing the back-nine at one-over 36, the sophomore recorded a three-under 32 on the front-nine.
Senior Bryce Hendrix (71) ended the day at one-under 69 and is currently tied for 15th place. Hendrix led the tournament through his first nine holes, as the Greenville, N.C., native was five-under 30 on the back-nine before finishing the day at one-under par.
Sophomore Zack Swanson (71) completed Monday’s play at one-over 71 and is amongst the 13 golfers tied for 25th place. The Waxhaw, N.C., native posted a two-under 33 on the back-nine, highlighted by three birdies between Holes 15-18.
Junior Grant Powell (75) finished the first round at five-over 75. Powell birdied twice during the first round on Holes 1 and 16.
