CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – No. 1 seed UNC Greensboro softball (31-22) fell 3-1 to the host of the Southern Conference Tournament, No. 3 Chattanooga (36-14), Friday afternoon at Jim Frost Stadium. The Mocs advance to Saturday’s championship game, while the Spartans will face the winner of No. 5 ETSU-No. 4 Mercer at approximately 4:30 p.m. for the last spot in the championship game.

Chattanooga took the lead in the sixth inning with a two-run homer to centerfield with two outs. The Mocs had placed a runner on with a fielding error with one out.

An insurance run was added in the last inning on a sac fly to left field.

As the home team due to being the higher seed, UNCG struck first in the second inning. Melanie Darges hit a two-out double off the left center fence. Monica Pepe brought her home with an RBI-single that landed just fair next to the right field line.

News and Notes

- Bryden threw her 22nd complete game of the year, allowing one earned run, three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.

- The Spartans left on eight runners compared to just two by the Mocs with four hits, three walks and two hit-by-pitches in the game.

- Darges reached base in all three plate appearances with her double and two walks.

- Delaney Cumbie also reached base three times with a single and the two hit-by-pitches.
