PINEHURST, N.C. –UNC Greensboro men’s golf got off to a strong start in its quest to win back-to-back Southern Conference Championships, as the Spartans on Sunday collected a team score of 283 and are currently five-under par. UNCG leads the field by six strokes, with ETSU and Mercer tied for second place at one-over.

The second round will begin tomorrow morning and live stats will be available via Golfstat.com.

Sophomore Zack Swanson (68) currently leads the field as he carded a four-under 68 on Sunday. Despite beginning the day with a double-bogey, the Waxhaw, N.C., native rebounded with six birdies in the round along with an eagle on Hole 8.

Fellow sophomore Nick Lyerly (69), meanwhile, is tied for second place after he completed the first round at three-under par. Lyerly birdied five times during the opening round.

Junior Jonathan Brightwell (72) is tied for ninth place after finishing the first round at even-par. Brightwell birdied and bogeyed three times each on the day.

Senior Bryce Hendrix (74) completed the first round at two-over 74 and sits in a two-way tie for 17th place while junior Grant Powell (79) is currently tied for 34th place after he finished the first round at seven-over par.
