GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women’s golf (303-306-309) finished the Bryan National Collegiate in 14th place after the Spartans on Sunday collected a 21-over 309 in the third round. The 918 is the team's lowest score in the Bryan National Collegiate in seven years.

"This is one of the best tournaments in the country, one of the best golf courses and one of the best fields we see all year," said Head Coach Janell Howland. "We had the best finish at the Bryan in my five years here and I couldn’t be more proud of this team and the steps we have taken as a program each year. We had some ups and downs this week from top to bottom of our lineup. I really thing we learned a lot that we can take forward into practice over the next two weeks. We are close to having five solid scores each day and that’s exciting."

The Spartans were led in the tournament by sophomore Tara Bettle (74-77-75), as she finished the tournament tied for 40th place after carding a three-over 75 on Sunday. The Berlin, Germany, native posted a one-under 35 on the back-nine of the final round, birding on Holes 14 and 17.

Senior Natalia Asensio (76-75-82) and sophomore Keri Kenkel (76-78-79) were two of three golfers who finished tied for 71st place in the tournament. Asensio ended the third round at 10-over 82 while Kenkel was seven-over 79. Both birdied once on the day.

"I couldn’t have asked for a better last home tournament," Asensio said. "Coach J does an amazing job making this event possible every year and we were lucky everything went smooth and the weather was good. I wish I could have finished stronger today, but I am proud of how the team did overall and we are already looking forward to conference."

Sophomore Sara Rydman (77-80-77) finished tied for 74th after registering a five-over 77 during Sunday’s 18 holes of play. Rydman birdied once on both the front- and back-nine.

Senior Lexi Kershaw (83-76-78) rounded out team play after she ended the third round at six-over 78.

"This week wasn’t the result I wanted, but I still played good and hit so many great shots," Kershaw said. "There was a lot more good out there this week and I’ve got to take that with me. The team finished better than we ever have at Bryan and I’m super proud. I can’t wait to take that into conference and see how we can finish up."

In individual play, freshman Hailey Joy (82-77-72) finished the third round at even-par to move 14 spots up the leaderboard to finish tied for 67th place. Joy birdied four times on the afternoon. Junior Kendall Dobbins (74-84-77) finished tied for 76th place after capping off the tournament at five-over 77 in the third round.

The Spartans’ next tournament appearance will come at the Southern Conference Championships which take place April 15-16 at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
