GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro women’s golf (303) completed the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate at 15-over 303 and is currently tied for 10th place alongside East Carolina. The team score of 303 was the lowest round the Spartans have tallied in the tournament over the last five years.

The second round of this week’s tournament, which is taking place at Bryan Park, will begin tomorrow and live stats will be available via GolfStat.com.

“Excited for the start for the team today,” said Head Coach Janell Howland. “The conditions couldn’t have been more perfect out there. The course played different than it has for us all semester, but they did a good job of adjusting to it.

“I’m looking forward to another day of great weather and great golf tomorrow. Hope the Spartan family can come out and support us.”

The Spartans in the first round were led by sophomore Tara Bettle (74), as she carded a two-over 74. Bettle birdied three times on the day including her first hole, par-4 10.

“I had a lot of fun out there at Bryan today,” Bettle said. “I hit great irons which allowed me to make some good birdies to finish 74. I am also proud of how solid the team performed and it was awesome seeing a lot of familiar faces supporting us out there.”

Senior Natalia Asensio (76) and sophomore Keri Kenkel (76) each ended the first round at four-over 76. Asensio birdie once in the round on Hole 4 while Kenkel tallied two birdies against four bogeys and one double-bogey.

Sophomore Sara Rydman (77) is currently amongst seven players tied for 57th place after finishing Friday’s action at five-over 77.

Senior Lexi Kershaw (83) is currently tied for 89th place with 36 holes remaining after collecting an 11-over in the first round.

In individual play, junior Kendall Dobbins (74) is currently tied for 26th place after she ended the first round at two-over 74. Dobbins birdied twice on the front-nine. Freshman Hailey Joy, meanwhile, completed her first round at 10-over 82.
