CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Through two rounds at the 2019 Tar Heel Intercollegiate, which is taking place this weekend at UNC Finley Golf Course, UNC Greensboro men’s golf (300-297) is currently in ninth place. The Spartans trail Mississippi State and Georgia Southern by one stroke for seventh place.

The third and final round will begin tomorrow morning and live stats will be available on Golfstat.com.

The Spartans through the first 36 holes of action were led by sophomore Zack Swanson (72-72), who completed the first round at even-par 72 as he countered two double-bogeys with four birdies, three of which came on the front-nine. Swanson was also even-par 72 in the second round with three birdies and bogeys apiece.

Sophomore Nick Lyerly (75-71) began the tournament recording a three-over 75 through the first 18 holes. Lyerly was one-over 37 on the front-nine before finishing the back-nine at two-over due to a double-bogey on the 18th hole. In the second round, the Salisbury, N.C., native finished one-under 71 with three birdies and two bogeys.

Senior Bryce Hendrix (78-75) carded a six-over 78 in the first round as he posted just two birdies during the round along with five bogeys and one triple-bogey. Hendrix, however, improved by three strokes in the second with a three-over 75.  

Junior Jonathan Brightwell (75-79) finished the first round at three-over 75. While Brightwell birdied seven times in the opening round, he also recorded two birdies and an eagle on Hole 6. In the second round, the Charlotte native was seven-over 79 with nine bogeys to just two birdies. 

Junior Grant Powell (80-79) recorded an eight-over 80 in the first round before finishing the second round at seven-over 79.
