GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG freshman Erika Barquero prevailed in a three-set battle against Gabrielle Centenari by scores of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to help the Spartan women’s tennis team earn a 4-3 victory over visiting Davidson on Wednesday, March 20. The victory marks UNCG’s fifth of the season and third at home.

Barquero was one of three Spartans to claim a singles victory along with Emily Ory, who came through with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nicole Krykanov. Nancy Bridges also clawed out a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Davidson’s Megan Scholvinck in the battle of No. 1 seeds.

Davidson (8-7) picked up its first single wins by Samanta Armas, who downed Brianna Gomez 6-4, 6-3. The second Wildcat point came from Alexandra Abele, who completed a 6-2, 7-5 win over Sophia Adams.

The final Davidson point of the afternoon came when Elizabeth Truluck posted a 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6-2) win over Eugenia Camacho.

“I am very proud of the way the girls played today,” said head coach Ale Guerra. “We competed hard and played to win throughout the match. Looking forward to another great home match on Friday.”

UNCG put together a dominating performance in doubles as the team of Adams / Camacho claimed a 7-5 win over Mira Gladstone / Alyssa Hahn. The doubles point was clinched as the duo of Bridges / Barquero emerged 7-6 (6-4) in the clash with Scholvinck / Truluck.

The Spartans completed their sweep of doubles as Ory / Gomez came through with a 7-6 victory against Abele / Adams.

UNCG remains at home this weekend when it faces James Madison at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22.
