After standout rookie campaigns in 2017, University of Richmond women's lacrosse freshmen Sam Geiersbach and Megan Gianforte were named to the Inside Lacrosse Postseason All-Rookie Team.
The duo led the Spiders on both ends of the field, and were two of 25 newcomers to receive All-Rookie recognition.
Geiersbach earned A-10 Rookie of the Year, All-Conference Second Team, All-Rookie Team and All-State Second Team honors after an outstanding season. Selected as the A-10 Rookie of the Week five times throughout the season, she set single-season program records for both points (85) and goals (66), while also leading the conference in goals, goals per game and points per game. Geiersbach also finished fourth on the team with 19 assists, and fifth in both ground balls (28) and caused turnovers (12).
Gianforte earned All-Conference First Team, All-Rookie Team and All-State First Team honors for her efforts, becoming the first rookie to win the league's top goalie honors since 2006. Gianforte stopped 186 shots and finished the season with a .499 save percentage, good for first in the conference, ninth nationally and first among freshmen nationally. Her 9.48 goals against average also lead the conference, while her 49 ground balls were the most of any Spider this season. She was also honored by the A-10 with four Defensive Player of the Week honors, a program record.
