TOWSON, Md. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team closed out its season-opening event on Sunday as play concluded at the Towson Classic.

• The Hawks met opposition from Coppin State in early action, and earned three singles wins and a doubles victory.  Amanda Nava earned a 6-1, 3-0 (ret.) win in singles play, while Sophia Amato claimed a 6-4, 6-2 straight-sets win in her match.  Madeline Hill then finished off the singles sweep with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 result.

• On the doubles side, Katherine Devlin and Iswarya Vel rolled to a 6-1 win of their own.

• The late matches pitted SJU against Towson.  Stow Weiss was the lone Hawk to emerge victorious, coming away with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win in singles play.

• "A small Coppin State squad in the early matches and a strong Towson squad following finished out our play for the weekend," head coach Ian Crookenden said.  "Amanda was never challenged in her first match, which contributed to her erratic play against a steady Towson opponent.  Excellent play again from freshman Stow Weiss, as well as strong showings from Paige [Conrad] and Anna [Kirk] made our weekend a productive kickoff to the year."

The Hawks will return home to host their annual SJU Invitational tournament.  The three-day event is set to begin on Friday at the SJU Tennis Complex.
