PHILADELPHIA – Senior captains Elaine Estes and Lindsey Oremus dazzled in the 5000m to highlight the Saint Joseph's women's track and field squad's performances at the 2019 Penn Relays, held at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field this Thursday through Saturday.

Estes (17:03.31) and Oremus (17:05.05) both PRed in the 5000m en route to 24th- and 26th-place finishes, respectively, in a field of 59 on Thursday evening's Distance Night. The veterans improved upon their previous 5k PRs, both set at this year's Colonial Relays, by over 13 seconds each as both recorded ECAC-qualifying performances.

Saint Joseph's turned in season-best performances in two relays as the 4x800m relay of junior Monica Higgins (2:24.77), sophomore Abigail Silva (2:25.15), sophomore Claire Podles (2:24.81), and senior captain Lucy Harmon crossed in a time of 9:36.26 (13th/16) on Saturday afternoon and Silva (3:40.54), senior captain Bridget McNierney (57.37), junior Emily Bracken (2:23.43), and Harmon (5:05.46) recorded a time of 12:06.79 (15th/15) on Thursday evening.

In Thursday's heats, the 4x100m relay of junior Aliyah Stokes, junior captain Caroline Duffy, senior captain Kelly Liebl, and senior captain Nathaniela Bourdeau crossed in 48.73 (41st/66) while the 4x400m relay of junior Karley Hess, Liebl, Duffy (57.69), and junior Tamar Bourdeau (58.64) turned in a time of 3:55.11 (38th/60).

Saint Joseph's Sprint Medley Relay of juniors T. Bourdeau, Hess, Sophia Recchilungo, and Higgins crossed in 4:21.28 (13th/13) while the Hawks' 4x200m relay group of freshman Ginika Nkwonta, Recchilungo, junior Samantha Spallanzani, and sophomore Alicia Forrest crossed in 1:49.27 (37th/40) in the Championship of America section, both on Friday.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Saint Joseph's sophomore Molly Jacobs won the 5000m to lead additional Hawks at the unscored Carol and John Covert Classic, held at Lehigh University's Goodman Track and Field Complex on Saturday.

Jacobs crossed the finish line in a collegiate-best time of 19:20.14, defeating Lafayette's Brook Blackshaw by over 11 seconds for her first collegiate victory in the field of 11.

Junior Joanna DeSousa added a second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase (12:44.52).


Saint Joseph's heads to the 2019 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend, May 3-5. The meet will be held at UMass' Track and Field Complex in Amherst, Mass.
