NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After turning in a pair of outstanding mile performances at the Penn State National Invitational this past weekend, Saint Joseph's men's track and field junior standout Zach Michon has been tabbed the Atlantic 10 Men's Indoor Track Performer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The honor marks the first of his collegiate track and field career; he was also named the league's PotW twice this past fall for cross country.
On Friday evening, Michon anchored the Distance Medley Relay to a win over Army West Point and La Salle as the group put together an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:13.60. The time stands as SJU's fastest DMR of the season and ranks second in the Atlantic 10.
On Saturday, Michon competed in a highly-competitive mile invitational field among distance standouts from Georgetown as well as club athletes. The junior clocked in with an Atlantic 10-leading time of 4:08.46 for seventh overall in the eight-man group, which was good for IC4A qualification.
Michon returns to action at the Villanova University Wildcat Invitational this Saturday, February 2. Start time at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. is set for 2:00 p.m.
SJU will split this weekend, as additional Hawks will compete at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus' Floy Lewis Bakes Center in Collegeville, Pa. on Saturday.
