NORFOLK, Va. - The 2019 MLB Playoffs begin on Tuesday evening, and ODU baseball will have four former Monarchs competing with three different clubs. Justin Verlander (Houston Astros), Ryan Yarbrough (Tampa Bay Rays), Daniel Hudson (Washington Nationals) and bench coach Matt Quatraro (Tampa Bay Rays) will see action in the MLB Postseason.

With the Houston Astros, Verlander has made 33 starts this season with a 2.53 ERA. Verlander and the Astros will face off against Oakland or Tampa Bay on Friday in the AL Wild Card game. Earlier in September, Verlander became the sixth pitcher in MLB history to pitch three no-hitters.

With a 6-2 win against the Blue Jays on Friday at Rogers Centre, the Rays clinched their first postseason berth since 2013. Yarbrough and the Rays will face Oakland in the AL Wild Card game on Wednesday. Yarbrough came just one out away from a complete game on Aug. 11, where he allowed just three hits and 26 outs. Yarbrough currently owns a 4.08 ERA this season with 11 wins. Quatraro joins the Rays in his first season as the bench coach for the club.

In his first season with the Washington Nationals, Hudson has made eight saves this season as the Nationals reliever. He owns a 2.50 ERA with 69 strikeouts. Hudson pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the season. Hudson and the Nationals will play in the NL Wild Card game on Tuesday.
